Rehabilitation 2030: a call for action

Rehabilitation 2030, a global gathering of many of the world's leading rehabilitation experts, concluded today with a call for action to address the significant and ever-increasing need for rehabilitation services around the world. Through the call for action, participants pledge to support governments to enhance rehabilitation services by incorporating rehabilitation into universal health coverage.

Launched today by the Minister for Health and Ambulance Services Cameron Dick, The Hopkins Centre – Research for Rehabilitation and Resilience brings together almost 150 senior clinicians and researchers from Metro South Health and Griffith University, to produce impactful research in disability and rehabilitation.

Driving major reform policy over the past 20 years in areas such as the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) and the National Injury Insurance Scheme (NIIS), are some of the many highlights being celebrated at Griffith University next week. A broad range of Griffith disability research and rehabilitation academics, as well as disability organisations are set to attend an event on Monday 12 September at the university’s Logan campus to celebrate and reflect on their major achievements. ‘Compassion, Collaboration, Creativity’ is the theme of the event, which will feature a timeline of research at Griffith covering areas such as acquired brain injury, social work, disability housing, allied health and rehabilitation counselling.

For 13-year-old Phoebe Page working with horses for the past eight weeks has been a challenging but rewarding experience. This week, Phoebe, along with five other young people will graduate from Evolve Queensland’s equine program. The program helps disadvantaged, disengaged and at risk young people build trust, communication and confidence.
