Alyssa Venning
Research Assistant, The Hopkins Centre, Griffith University
Alyssa holds a Bachelor of Social Work (Hons) from the University of Queensland and Dip. Ed (Central Qld University). She is currently undertaking research in the area of policy and governance with The Hopkins Centre. She is also employed as a sessional academic at Queensland University of Technology as a tutor, supervisor and student liaison. Alyssa previously co-directed a regional arts company where her work focussed on the social engagement of people in regional and remote communities using the arts as an interface for social interaction and integration. She has developed and delivered projects for community resilience, disaster relief, educational engagement and mental health throughout Australia.
Prior to working in research, Alyssa worked in obstetric social work at the MMH, in community development, capacity building and disaster recovery in regional and remote Australia. Her area of interest lies in human rights, and the most current research is the area of disability rights, specifically related to the National Disability Insurance Scheme. The values of equity and fairness are at the centre of her work. She is also currently working on an ARC funded project, Complex Interfaces, that looks at boundary or interfaces issues in the NDIS environment.
