Queenslanders with Disability Network Federal Election Platform 2019

Queenslanders with Disability Network (QDN) is a state wide organisation of, for, and with people with disability connecting for collective and affirmative action. Our motto is “nothing about us without us.”

QDN operates a state-wide network of members who provide information, feedback and views from a consumer perspective to inform systemic policy feedback to Government and peak bodies.

QDN along with our community partners Multicap, CPL, and Queensland Collective for Inclusive Education, are hosting a community forum on 2nd May 2019 (please see attached flyer) in the lead up to the Federal election and would like to invite you and members of your organisation to come along and raise your concerns.

In addition QDN through our members with disability and our allies and supporters have developed a Federal Election Campaign platform about the important things the Federal Government can do (please see attached)

The key messages for the campaign are :

• Disability Matters in Moreton  and this is an opportunity to raise directly with candidates standing in this election the key issues by and for people with disability and their families, carers and the workforce who support them
• The NDIS is one key election issue that is impacting upon many people, and whilst there are lots of positive things happening for people, there are still many areas that it can be improved. It is critical that we ask our politicians to deliver us the NDIS we were promised – an NDIS that works for all of us.
• People with disability want a place to call home, jobs, access to quality health, good education, transport to get around, and ultimately a community where they are included where they can play, work and live. There are many barriers for people with disability getting access to all of these in the same way as other people.
• People with disability, families and the workforce that supports them, along with the community are invited to come along to the Disability Matters forum to share your experiences, the challenges and the solutions to ensure our candidates know what is happening for people on the ground, in community and what they can do if elected to address these important issues.
